WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS?
An essential oil is an aromatic volatile liquid found within many plants. Typically, it is extracted through steam distillation. Therapeutic grade essential oils are very complex, highly concentrated, and require a large amount of plant material to produce small amounts of a distilled essential oil. Essential oils are different than other oils, such as vegetable oil or olive oil, as they are not greasy, and they may have therapeutic benefits.
Today there are many different companies that sell “essential oils”. You can find essential oils online and in retail stores, but they are not always what they seem. Three areas to consider when looking for the best quality essential oils are:
💧Farms: Where are the farms located? What is the quality of the soil? How are the plants grown and cared for? Does the supplier personally inspect the fields?
💧Distillation: What pressure and temperature are used for distillation/extraction? Are the distillation cookers fabricated from food-grade stainless steel alloys to reduce the likelihood of the oils chemically reacting with metal? Does the supplier personally inspect the distilleries? Are the distillation facilities part of the farm so that oils are freshly distilled? Are toxic chemicals used during the extraction or distillation process?
💧Purity Testing: Does the supplier test purity and therapeutic quality of each batch of essential oils rigorously, including third party testing? Are essential oils “enhanced” with lab-created constituents to increase volume or fragrance?
Not all “essential oils” are of the same quality. Labels can be deceiving. The only way to know if your oils are pure is to have the ability to see every part of the process in action, all the way from planting the seed in the ground all the way to sealing the bottle. Young Living’s Seed to Seal Promise does exactly that.
